Noah Acevedo, senior at Putnam City High School. He grew up as a first-generation Hispanic American, so opportunities weren't always handed to him. Despite limited resources, he gave everything 100%. Throughout high school, Noah was granted the Gates Scholarship, OCCF First Generation Scholarship, and merit scholarships to multiple universities. The experiences brought him to this point, including being named an AP scholar with honor, placing 3 times at DECA state, becoming Student Council Co-Chair and Chaplain, being a graduation usher, being involved in clubs like FCCLA and BPA, and 100 hours of community service.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT

In education, May is truly a month of joy, with endless reasons to celebrate, from small daily wins to entire classes of hopeful seniors graduating. I love this time of year because it reminds us, that the work is worth it. With that, I want to start by honoring some incredible people who make Putnam City a premier district. There are several national recognition holidays this time of year, such as School Nurses Day, School Lunch Hero Day, Recognize a Principal Day, and Teacher Appreciation Week – to name a few! I’m sure I inevitably missed some, and some recognitions have already occurred earlier in the year; however, no matter who you are, I want to personally thank each of you. Whether you fuel our students in the cafeteria, bandage them when they get extra adventurous, or inspire them through innovative lessons, our schools simply would not be what they are without you.

Additionally, we have a few individual awards to recognize! We are proud to celebrate Darrell Cross, who has been named the Oklahoma School Bus Driver of the Year by the Oklahoma Association for Pupil Transportation. This statewide honor is greatly deserved! Congratulations, Darrell! Further, we want to congratulate PC West junior Scout Halley for being selected as the Oklahoma Department of Aerospace and Aeronautics Student of the Month for May. Congratulations, Scout!

Finally, as we approach the end of the school year, I want to encourage families to really embrace this wonderful time of the year and celebrate our students and staff. What a year it has been. The story of Putnam City Schools has never been more inspiring and hopeful. Thank you to our students, families, and staff for making the year one to remember and be proud of. As the last day of school is Thursday, May 21st, we wish everyone a safe and restful summer and look forward to seeing you in the fall.

However, in the fall, we will be welcoming a new superintendent as I will be enjoying retirement! Change like this is an exciting opportunity for growth and a renewed perspective, and I encourage our entire community to approach this transition with patience, open-mindedness, and enthusiasm. Dr. Rodrequez comes with fresh ideas and a genuine care and commitment to our students’ success. The future is bright, and Putnam City is ready to continue to go boldly toward it.

-Dr. Fred Rhodes
