During the summer months, while our teachers are away, our Operations staff dedicates themselves full time to our schools. They work diligently to complete great transformations, to ready our schools for a new school year. This summer, we are excited for several key projects.
The remodel of the Transportation building will be finished this month. I had the opportunity to tour this new space and it is remarkable with valuable additions for our hardworking and dedicated bus drivers, monitors, mechanics, and administrative staff.
The awaited groundbreaking for the Centennial Center building and park is set for this month. We are excited for this collaborative and innovative community space, performing arts center, and administrative office space.
In our schools, Mayfield Middle School is undergoing phase one of its interior upgrade, Western Oaks Elementary is receiving a playground improvement, Putnam City High School’s baseball stadium is receiving a new turf outfield, and at Putnam City North phase one of the outdoor learning area is going to be completed. Last, but certainly not least, our maintenance and custodial staff will be working throughout the summer to ensure all work orders are completed and school buildings are clean for the new year.
Our buildings are a beehive of activity when students and teachers are away for the summer, thanks to our dedicated Operations staff. Please join me in thanking them for going the extra mile. We are excited to see the finished products of their hard work and craftsmanship.
-Dr. Fred Rhodes, Superintendent
To the Hilldale Tigers, Emily Jantz is not a stranger. Having served in an administrative role at Hilldale since 2021, most recently as Assistant Principal, Mrs. Jantz now moves up to Head Principal. Mrs. Jantz began her education career in Putnam City Schools at Central Elementary as a teacher and team leader. She was also named the Teacher of the Year for Central in 2019. Mrs. Jantz has been instrumental in helping our Hilldale Tigers continue their prowl to success, and we are excited to see her lead the pride in this new role!
We welcome Dr. Diane Floyd to Putnam City Schools as the new Executive Director of Special Services. Dr. Floyd has a solid background in education, starting her career as a Special Education Teacher. Dr. Floyd has served as a classroom teacher, site principal, in various district administrative roles in both public schools and private schools. We are excited to welcome Dr. Floyd and her leadership to Putnam City Schools!
Shanda Brody has a long history with Putnam City Schools. Not only is Mrs. Brody a graduate of Putnam City, but she also began her Putnam City Schools career at Wiley Post Elementary. Starting her career in education, Mrs. Brody taught for 14 years in OKCPS. In 2005, she returned home to PCS at Wiley Post Elementary as an Instructional Coach. In 2012, she moved into administration at Dennis Elementary and then at Windsor Hills Elementary. For the last 7 years, she has been the Head Principal at Hilldale Elementary (where she attended elementary school). We are excited to welcome Mrs. Brody back to Wiley Post to keep our Blue Angels flying high.
Congratulations to the PCH Football team for winning the 2024 Wes Welker 7-on-7 Tournament this past weekend. Junior Wide Receiver, Visanio Boyd, was recognized as the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Great job, Pirates!
Congratulations to PC High's Pilar Humphrey for receiving a Kelli O'Hara Spotlight Award for her role in "Mamma Mia!" What an accomplishment and way to represent Putnam City on the big stage!
