SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT

It’s great to be back after we celebrated our Nation’s 248th Independence Day on July 4th.  When you do the math, our school district has now been in existence nearly half of the length of the time of the establishment of our country.  That is kind of amazing!

We have several we would like to acknowledge and recognize tonight.

We are pleased to recognize two outstanding staff members, Shelly Armstrong and Zachary Wouters, from our Transportation Department. They have earned the distinguished title of Nationally Certified Supervisors of Pupil Transportation through the National Association of Pupil Transportation. This certification is a testament to their expertise and commitment to ensuring the safety and efficiency of our transportation services. Remarkably, they are 2 of the only 3 nationally certified supervisors in the state of Oklahoma. Their achievement underscores the high standards we uphold in our great District.

We celebrate Lacy Grotheer, FCCLA teacher at PC High, for her recognition at the 2024 National Leadership Conference in Seattle, Washington. Lacy was honored for her dedication to excellence and for completing the Advisory Academy Course Two, which supports the future of FCCLA. Her commitment to our students and her professional growth are truly commendable.

We would like to extend our congratulations to former Putnam City School Board member Becky Haliburton Gooch. Becky was recently honored by the State Chamber of Commerce with the “Excellence in Public Service Award.” This prestigious recognition highlights her outstanding contributions and unwavering commitment to the community and state. Currently, Becky serves as the Director of Committee Staff and Policy Director to the President Pro Tempore Committee Staff Division in the Office of the President Pro Tempore with the Oklahoma Senate. We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and grateful for her continued dedication to our state.

And on a very sad note, our heartfelt sympathy to the family of Sue Sullivan.  Sue was a longtime teacher in Putnam City and following retirement, she served several years on the School Board.  Current Board President Gail LoPresto served on the Board with Sue Sullivan in the late 90’s and early 2000’s.  Upon hearing of her passing, Gail replied, “Never a better board member.”, which speaks so highly of her loyalty and dedication.  When I returned to the District in 2013 as Superintendent, Sue Sullivan was among the first to congratulate me.  She became a District Ambassador, a strong supporter and advocate of the 2014 Centennial Bond.  She occasionally contacted me to let me know she was pleased with the progress being made across the District she loved so much. We appreciate her years of service to the students and entire Putnam City community.

-Dr. Fred Rhodes, Superintendent
