At each Board Meeting, we incorporate high school student leaders to open the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of Silence. This tradition is guided by our District's mission statement of empowering students to achieve personal success and enrich the community.
Tonight's student leader was Joseph Thomas. Joseph is a junior at PC High and participates in a multitude of extracurriculars such as AFJROTC, JLAB, Academic Bowl, Robotics Team, and community service efforts. He has recently been accepted to the AFJROTC Flight Academy this summer, where he will earn his private pilot's license and a substantial college scholarship. After high school, Joseph plans on attending Purdue University and joining ROTC to become a pilot while majoring in mechanical engineering.
Tomorrow is a pivotal day for the future of our District – the election for the 2025 Innovation Bond. But before we look ahead, let’s take a moment to reflect on our District’s remarkable history.
Putnam City Schools was founded on a simple yet powerful vision: parents wanting the very best for their children. As Oklahoma’s first independent school district, that spirit of excellence, empowerment, and environment has remained our driving force for 111 years.
Through our District’s extensive history, our Bonds have strengthened our community, fueling progress and opportunity for generations. Because of these investments, we have built new schools, constructed multi-purpose storm shelters, transformed fine arts and athletics facilities, advanced to a one-to-one technology district, installed weapon detection systems, and provided our students with safe, modern transportation. These projects – and so many more – have always been about one thing: providing our students and staff with the very best educational experience.
Now, we stand at another defining moment. The 2025 Innovation Bond represents our boldest step forward yet, shaped by two years of thoughtful community and data-driven input. Just like the founding of our District, this Bond was created through deep-rooted collaboration with our staff, families, and community. It focuses on expanding educational opportunities, modernizing facilities, enhancing operations, and prioritizing safety at every level. This is more than an investment in buildings and resources, it’s an investment in our bold innovative future.
When we invest in our schools, we invest in the heart of our community. Tomorrow, February 11th, I encourage each and every one of you to vote. Take others with you to the polls. But I also encourage you to personally contact 10 people and remind them to vote tomorrow. The Putnam City community has always supported school bonds. So, a simple reminder to others, will go a long way. We are very fortunate that this bond will not increase taxes, but will pay huge dividends for the future.
Make your voice heard. Encourage your friends, families, and colleagues to do the same. Together, we will innovate. Together, we will “Go Boldly.”
-Dr. Fred Rhodes
