STUDENT LEADERS OPEN MEETING |
At each Board Meeting, we incorporate high school student leaders to open the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and Moment of Silence. This tradition is guided by our District's mission statement of empowering students to achieve personal success and enrich the community. |
Tonight's student leaders were: |
Owen Attebery, a senior at Putnam City North. His presence has been felt at numerous events throughout his four years at PCN. He became the Spirit Vice President for STUCO (Students United at North) this year and goes above and beyond when it comes to making sure that school spirit is alive and well. Owen is one of the founding members of the Pantheralls, a group that makes it a point to attend as many events as possible for all things PCN. Owen maintains a 4.125 weighted GPA and ranks 33 out of 405 in his class academically. He is a member of National Honor Society and is a versatile athlete. Owen has played varsity baseball primarily as an infielder, catcher, and pitcher for 3 years. In his four years at North, he has played every position on the field. Owen just finished his first-ever year playing varsity football, where he found playing time as a long snapper, kicker, place kicker, wide receiver, cornerback, and safety. He was just named All-District Honorable Mention for Special Teams.
Zandria King, a senior at Putnam City High School. She has been involved in FCCLA, our freshman mentor program: Link Crew, Unified Partners, which works with our Pirates with Special Needs, Afro Coalition of Excellence, Senior Leadership, Prom Committee, National Honor Society, and StuCo Representatives. This week, we are proud to recognize several outstanding individuals who exemplify the excellence of Putnam City Schools.
First, we celebrate Emma Miller, 3rd-grade teacher at Central Elementary, who was honored by the Oklahoma City Council and the Rotary Club of Oklahoma City last week, as nominated by the PC Foundation. Ms. Miller’s dedication to her students and her commitment to creating a joyful, engaging learning environment have made a meaningful impact on her school community. We are grateful to see her work recognized at such a notable level.
Next, we congratulate Nischal Joshi, a senior at Putnam City High School, for receiving a prestigious QuestBridge Match Scholarship, awarding him a full four-year scholarship to Stanford University. Nischal plans to major in Economics with a minor in Public Policy or Computer Science. This incredible achievement reflects not only his academic excellence and hard work, but also the teachers and mentors who have supported him throughout his educational journey. We are exceptionally proud of him and look forward to all he will accomplish.
Lastly, our students and teachers have been working hard all semester, and now it’s that fantastic time of year when we get to see their talents in the holiday festivities, concerts, and productions happening throughout the District. This is truly a wonderful time of year to spread joy and cheer together. We know these productions take countless hours of dedication, and we are so thankful for everyone who participates and supports.
-Dr. Fred Rhodes
