SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT

Summer may still be in full swing, but the first day of school is quickly approaching. Students return to class on August 13th, and we are excited to welcome everyone back for another great year of learning and growth. If you are getting a head start on school shopping, elementary supply lists are now available on our website.

As we prepare for a new year, we also take time to recognize the accomplishments of our graduates. Two remarkable Putnam City alumni, Bob Blackburn and Brian Dougherty, have co-authored a new book titled Parks of Oklahoma City: A History, which tells the story of how public parks have shaped the growth and spirit of our city.

Bob Blackburn is a graduate of Putnam City High School and a member of the Putnam City Schools Foundation Wall of Fame. He is one of Oklahoma’s most respected historians and served as Executive Director of the Oklahoma Historical Society for nearly three decades. His work has helped preserve and share the stories of Oklahoma’s past.

Brian Dougherty is a graduate of Putnam City West and a nationally recognized expert in landscape architecture and urban park development. He served as Director of the Parks and Public Spaces Initiative and the Margaret Annis Boys Trust for the Oklahoma City Community Foundation for 24 years.

Their book will be featured soon on OETA’s Oklahoma Gardening, and we are planning a book signing event this fall at the Centennial Center. We are proud to celebrate their achievements and the continued impact of our graduates on the community and beyond.

We continue to be inspired by the stories of our students and graduates and look forward to the many new ones that will begin on August 13th.

-Dr. Fred Rhodes

It’s one more way we’re preparing students to Go Boldly, both in school and beyond.
